Ummm...timetable?

Saturday 29th September:

Both my mum and boyfriend called me last night so I felt really emotional and homesick. Texted Will and told him that I wasn't interested, but when he texted back he didn't make any sense. He's still texting me.

Went to the Superheroes Ball last night despite feeling a bit homesick. Decided to go as German Girl- German footie t-shirt, a sign which said "Was meinst du?! Ja, ich bin Heldin!" (What do you mean?! Of course I'm a heroine!) and a Deutschland belt tied around my head. As a result, I met 4 German blokes called Nils, Rufus, Richard, and the other whose name I can't remember. They bought me a beer. RESULT. Hung around with them for a bit, went home, ate choc and watched Ducktales in German.

Woke up at 1:20pm today. OOPS. Needed to pick up a package so I can get the net in my room but the office isn't open until Monday. Typical.

Came here and my timetable still isn't up. I also heard that I should have received a letter about which modules I'd like to take but I never did. Chase it up if that happens, people! I had no idea and now I'm a bit worried. Emailed my personal tutor and will have to keep checking today and tomorrow.

Freshers week is nearly up

Friday 28th September: Update on last night

Last night was sooooo good!!! I love my flatmates, they're so much fun. Before you come to Aston, people say that the atmosphere in Lakeside is more anti-social, but I wouldn't say so in our case. We like to sit down and eat together, and we regularly go out and invite people from other flats over. At about 8 last night we all had a sesh in the flat and played loads of drinking games. The best (and also possibly worst in my case) was oned with cards. Unfortunately before we left I picked a King, which meant that I had to down a glass which consisted of everyone's booze (Strongbow, wine, cider and various others, as there were 9 of us.) Ewwwwww!!!! I did it.

We tried to get into the comedy night but I think it was full, so we headed off to a club called The Works. That ruled. Then we all got chips from Coffee and Cream and went back to the flat for a chat. We all dared each other to go to a piercing studio the next day and get something random done. Didn't go to bed until 4am. Oops.

Will phoned me 3 times at 1am. I feel so completely smothered by him.

Managed to drag myself out of bed this morning, as I was going to Cadbury World. (On my lonesome, cos Carina would have to drive as she's in a wheelchair, Zoe and Karen had IMBL meetings, and everyone else said it was ****. NEIN. I've been there twice before when I was ickle, so I decided I'd check it out again. Whilst in the mini bus I heard some German girls talking, so I introduced myself and got to practice. I have a brilliant accent apparently!!! Woot.
Hung around with them and another girl called Laura, and got a picture taken in the Cadabra ride. Okay its for kids, but I flipping love it.

Hardly ate any chocolate and was sick this afternoon. Nice. Had to leg it out of the library and back to the flat, cos I dunno where the toilets are in here yet. Went to the finance office, but they're closed. Money is going so fast. I have no idea how I'll cope with that, even though I am economising as much as I can. Bought most of my TP1 (Teaching Period 1 aka Term 1) books from Amazon Marketplace today. £40 for three books. Damn the postage and packing. £8 ish!!! Not cheap.

Will has called me twice today already and I expect more calls. Gah. I don't think I wanna be friends with him right now, cos I can't deal with someone who calls me 5 times and day and sees me about twice. He's definitely after something and it gives me the wig.

Superheroes Ball tonight. My flatmates are trying to persuade me to go as Tampon Girl. Fi is going as Super Fi in her Argos tshirts, with slogans such as "Bursting with Choice", Matt is going as Iron Man. This should be a laugh.

I should go soon. I may need to go food shopping and I need phone credit. Freshers, go on contract. Its so much easier, I've heard.

Men are weird

Wednesday 26th September: Pub Crawl and School Daze

This night was one of the best nights of my life, bar a fwe minor things which may cause a few problems. I got so drunk and at one point couldn't even walk straight! I must've had about 7 or 8 Smirnoff Ices. Of course, Mum had to call me at the most innapropriate moment, but it was good to speak to her. That wasn't what annoyed me though. We were in Scruffy Murphy's pub, the last one before we went back to the guild, and this bloke (fairly old) decided to come up to me and go, "Did you know that you're really gorgeous?" Okay. BYE. Then, and this is the worst bit, my friend Will kissed me on the head. NO DAMN YOU. I have a boyfriend. Will won't leave me alone now,and my flatmates said that they thought he was being a bit overfriendly. Warning to next years freshers: Watch out for annoying randoms who hit on you. And then poke them with a stick.

I don't know why, but it hadn't hit me by then (probably cos I was so drunk) but I went back to the guild with Will anyway. Thankfully I found Zoe and Karen in the Blue Room and danced with them all night. Will doesn't dance, but he took a lot of pictures of me. With my camera.

Thursday 27th September:

I'm proud of myself today- I found the ninth floor north wing, where my languages notice board, post box and personal tutor (Translation tutor, Kate Sturge) live. And I didn't get lost!!! Woo. She was really nice and said that she'd help if I had any problems.

The laundry I did yesterday in my sink is a little cardboardy but its fine. So yay, another success which I didn't have to pay for. I'm economizing until tomorrow as I get paid then. I've already run out of food essentials, some bathroom stuff and phone credit though.

Since then I've been here. And Will MSNed me. Gahhhhh. And he said "love" at the end. Nooooooo. I am so not going out tonight so I can avoid him. Might come back here and talk to the bf.

Busy bee

Hello all. Me again. I'm in the library again but hopefully I'll have the net in my room by next week.

Tuesday 25th September:

Massoud, who lives in my flat, decided to play asian hip hop at 5am in the morning so I was rudely awoken. I then discovered that I've now developed "Freshers Flu." (A horrible headcold and scratchy throat). I've only been here 5 days!!! Blahhhhh. If I had to do this over again, I would've brought plenty of Lemsip and vitamin C etc. But I didn't. So I stole Flu Plus from Will. Went to a German meeting in the morning and found yet more books that I need to buy! So expensive. I bought one cheaply from the campus shop JS, but am going online Friday to buy them from the Amazon marketplace as they're fairly cheap. Hopefully I'll get them in time for my lectures and won't be in trouble. There's no point in buying them beforehand.

Then I spent ages wandering around like a wally looking for the finance office. I got some funny looks from Aston aunties because of the reason I was going. I worry about everything!!!! As of Friday I should have my loan and then I can pay things off and buy books.

Then I went to the Translation meeting. Again, useful.

At 6:30pm Will and I headed off to Carling Academy to see Reuben live. (Kind of like Slipknot but not...they're REALLY good!!!) I was a bit miffed when I got there cos the security guy told me to chuck my re-usable water bottle in the bin. It came from home as well! I felt strangely attached to it. The first band up were Enjoy Destroy. Didn't rate them to be honest. Kill Kenada were next, and my God, did they ROCK! Reuben came on shortly after and it was then that all hell broke loose. Two guys starting fighting in the mosh pit and I nearly went flying several times. After 20 minutes, I decided that it wasn't for me, so Will and I stood at the back. This turned out to be a god option, as I met the lead singer from Kill Kenada who was gorgeous and very friendly.

Will and I headed back to my flat and tried to fix my net, but alas :(

Wednesday 26th September:

Today I went to the library for a meeting. I then tried to find the next one but ran out of time and got extremely lost. Next time I'm only going if I have plenty of time to find my way around. I then tried to find my noticeboard to see who my personal tutor is. God, that took forever. Why do hardly any of the lifts go to the ninth floor and the north wing?! I walked around like a loon for ages and nearly got stuck in a corridor when the door locked.

This afternoon I decided to save money at the laundrette by washing socks and underwear in k my sink, and hanging them on a whirly thingie. I'll let you know if it works, cos I've never done laundry before. Its taking a helluva long time to dry.

Then I got a shirt for the pub crawl. Im taking my camera tonight to it, and then to the school disco. Will post pictures shortly. Better go now cos the pub crawl starts at 6!!!

Ciao.

Hallo!

Here goes my first entry then. Apologies if its rather naff, but its half past 6 at night, I'm in the library and I'm HUNGRY. Hehe. Plus, I also just pressed a button on my computer which made the keyboard do the reverse function. So I lost my previous post. I also don't have the net in my room yet cos its not working. First piece of advice: Keysurf sucks. Avoid it like hell.

I'm sensing that you have a burning question on your lips. I'm also guessing that its: What have you been up to? So here we go:

Friday 21st September:

Today I moved in because I had a disability induction which started at 9:30am. This meant that I had to get up at 5:30am which I have never done in my entire life. Did I enjoy it? No. I got there and spent ages wandering around like a wally with mum because I couldn't get into lakeside reception to pick up my keys and swipecard. Finally we got somewhere and my slaves (aka my sister and mum) dumped my stuff in my room whilst I attended the induction. Whilst there I met a really nice guy called Alex, who has now become a firm friend. I know that everyone says it, but you really do make friends that quickly. It also helps because your mind is drawn away from all the daunting things and you don't think about leaving home. (That is, until like me, you find a card in your laptop bag which talks about virtual hugs from family whilst being away.)

I'd also advise going around Brum as soon as you can as you feel a lot more at ease. I went and found the nearest Tesco Express which is only 10 minutes away. It's surprising how near everything is.

Saturday 22nd September:

This was the day that everyone else arrived so I was quite glad to have some company in my flat! Unfortunately I hadn't slept well because I don't sleep well unless I'm at home.
Once I got up, I decided to try out the shower. I wouldn't recommend it if you don't like showers. Nuff said.

After lunch I went to meet a guy called Will, who I met through the UCAS supported site, You Go Further. If you haven't already signed up, I'd really recommend doing so. I ended up with about 10 friends on there, about 7 of whom I've already met and some of whom are firm friends. Later on I also met up with another You Go friend called Zoe, and her You Go friend (who actually also added me) called Kim. (Who is a boy.) We decided that we'd go to the Freshers Party together that night. It was a bit daunting at first, but once we got in there it was fab! We spent the night in the fabulous Einstein's bar where we played pool, messed around with the juke box and got drunk. Oh, and we also ran into a naked male auntie several times.

And the most fantastic event of the night- The fire alarm went off at 4am. What a joy. It's already gone off 3 times previously in Stafford Tower. No idea who set it off, but I certainly had fun standing around in my dressing gown outside. Haha. Nice welcome to Aston there. Be warned- always keep a jumper and thick coat next to your bed in case this happens. Its very likely as I've discovered.

Sunday 23rd September:

Due to the events of the previous night I woke up at 11am.
Decided to go out to the guild to have a look for a job as I'm now a poor, penilless student. Nothing was open. So after lunch I met up with Will and Zoe who introduced me to more people. We all decided that we'd go for a proper explore of the Bull Ring. It wasn't very successful. Ben and Jerry's freezer had broken and the Rag Market was closed. (Despite a huge OPEN sign. Will feels cheated.)
I was then introduced to some more people whom I went out with later that night, to my resident local, The Sacks. (The Sack of Potatoes pub, next to the guild.) It's lovely in there. We were gonna go to the party that night, but us being "sensible" freshers decided that because we had to get up for induction at 8am that we'd skip it and watch a DVD. Our choice was "Davis Gorman's Googlewhack Adventure." To all freshers- you could be possible Googlewhacks!!! Look it up. Seriously.

Monday 24th September:

Didn't sleep well again, due to being woken up at 3am by some randomers in front of our flat door who were playing a game called "Ping pang pong." (This seemed to consist of shouting "PING PANG PONG" very loudly, with the occasional "Kung Fu.") When talking to my flatmates this morning, we all assumed that they were gatecrashers in our kitchen, they were that loud. Apparently not. If they're out there tonight, they're so dead!!! :D

Today I officially became a student! That's right, I enrolled. It took so long that I ended up skipping a lot of the meetings (Ssssh.) It basically consists of playing a game of musical chairs and handing lots of forms about. Again though, if you're shoved next to someone you don't know, you can end up making a new friend. I met a girl called Emma who might be coming with Will and I to a gig tomorrow.

I also went to the job shop and got some applications. (BUILD A BEAR- WOO HOO!)

Since 4ish I've been in the library. Now I'm going home to eat. Auf Wiedersehen und bis bald :)
